A special feature on Kitakyushu, a place where the past and present meet! Volume 3!
Karato Ichiba (Market)!
For this instalment in our series we went to Karato Ichiba (Market) in Kitakyushu.
Much like the topic of our second feature, which explored Tanga Ichiba, this is another famous food market in northern Kyushu.
However, one of the major differences between the two places is that Karato Ichiba is known both home and abroad for its strong connection to fugu (blowfish)!
Here is a giant fugu monument!
It’s a bit scary, don’t you think?
The market is incredibly busy in the mornings.
It is a great place to buy incredibly fresh fish!
You can also enjoy freshly caught fish in the sushi restaurants located right beside the market!
Fish this fresh is not only delicious, it’s also pretty filling!
There is nothing better than soft, tender sashimi!
After once you’ve finished inside the market, you can take a trip on the ferry, which rides goes and forth between Karato Ichiba and Mojiko. It’s a great chance to take in the lovely scenery while!
If you are planning a visit to Kitakyushu, this is definitely somewhere you should try and visit!
